square one.

Back to the Beginning

Well, not really.

Just feels like it some days.

In order to move forward I have to do things I don't feel like.

Like learning.

Making the choice to start at square one.

It's easier to stay put. The same. Status quo.

That's why I continue to take classes. Learn new techniques. Wrestle with unfamiliar skills.

It's a push towards living with intention.

There's nothing grand about learning. In fact often things look worse before they get better. It can feel like a waste of time.

If I look closely though I can see the building blocks of growth. How choosing effort fosters purpose. And pushing through struggles grows into determination. Maybe even confidence.

I don't know the future. Obviously.

But I do know that if I don't do the work set before me nothing will happen. That is guaranteed. That is a future I can predict.

Nothing will change unless I do.

First steps are brutal. Second steps are even worse.

No kidding.

I don't mean to scare you. But the reality is--as hard as it is to start it's even harder to keep going. To persevere.

What's worse?

Staying stuck right where you are.

What is in your heart? What are you putting off? What small step can you take today? Right now?

I'll go first.

I'm going to learn how to make art videos.

Grandiose? Maybe.

Scary? Definitely.

And no, I don't know what I'm doing.

But, let's not let fear win.

I'm going back to square one. Learning something new.

Please tell me you are too.
