words.
Words have value.
You'd think I'd understand this, right? I create much of my art with words. I create special orders with words. I search for words endlessly on Google and Pinterest.
Fancy words. Simple words. Creative words.
Words, words and more words. And yet, sometimes I don't realize how much words mean.
Words do have meaning.
I understand this better now.
A few days before Christmas I got a call from an acquaintance. She wanted a custom book cover card as a gift for her daughter. I was too busy to make it. I could hear the disappointment in her voice.
Words matter.
I said I would try.
After I agreed I decided to work hard to complete this gift for her. I generally have book cover cards in various stages of development so this helped speed up the process.
By working on the book cover a little at a time I was able to complete it before Christmas. We were both happy about that.
Words make connections.
I made the delivery.
What I didn't know before delivering the book cover card was how much effort this woman had put into finding me. She saw the book cover cards at a school craft fair two years earlier but couldn't remember who made them. She contacted the coordinator of the craft fair and together they were able to look back at the craft fair schematic. From there she contacted a teacher who had my phone number. And when that number didn't work she contacted someone else for my cell phone. She was determined. I can't even.
Words have significance.
Words are essential.
Words really do matter.
