Time For Class
I've taken many online art classes over the past 5 years. I'm somewhat of a junkie you might say. I want to learn and I have a lot of catching up to do. I took my first art class at the age of 50 so you can see why I'm in a race against time.
I just finished an art class called "Sacred Landscape" taught by Ivy Newport. The class focused on abstract figurative art using collage and paint on a variety of substrates. What I liked most was how Ivy broke down each step of the process so even I could follow along. I love this type of art for the emotion it evokes without using much detail.
Here's a few photos of the finished projects I created from the class.
In the first one I collaged an image, elongated their bodies and painted abstractly over the figures.
In the next one I collaged an image and roughly painted over it. I emphasized the darks and lights with the color blue. This one surprised me because it was only when I stepped away could I actually see it. During the process of painting it appeared to be random strokes of color.
The last one also has an image collaged then was roughly painted. The details get lost in the paint and texture.
From my experience Ivy Newport is a generous and knowledgeable teacher. If you've ever considered taking an online art class I would highly recommend her. She also has some free videos on her site so you can get a sense of her teaching style before paying for a class.
I was so inspired after finishing the class that I created my own version of an abstract figurative landscape. I painted this using only a palette knife.
Obviously I need to practice, practice, practice. But, like any new skill you have to start somewhere.
Time for me to practice what I preach and get back to class. And, hey if I can keep learning and practicing so can you. Believe me, your future self will thank you.
So, how about it? What are you going to practice today?
