untried.
Lamb, Chihuly & Grisaille
The common denominator?
All untried.
I cooked lamb, visited the Chihuly museum and attempted grisaille painting.
All for the first time.
All in the past few weeks.
None of these are a big deal.
There was no risk or danger involved.
But they were all new. Untried. Unfamiliar.
As much as I enjoy the ease of routine. The sameness. Predictability. The ordinariy.
I think there is a real benefit to the unfamiliar. Being curious. Exerting effort. Struggling to learn.
But I have to be okay with failure. Getting it wrong. Making a mistake. Or even looking silly.
Watch my video on grisaille style painting and you'll know what I mean. At the end I'm not super happy with the outcome but I decided not to let fear restrict me from sharing. Because honestly the first attempt is never that great.
Proficiency takes practice.
What new thing will you try? Learn? Or Discover?
I'd love to hear about it.
